cognitive dissonance

Cognitive dissonance is an uncomfortable state of anxiety that results when your actions, observations, beliefs or feelings are not in alignment.

BITE Model

The four elements which seek alignment are behavior, information, thoughts, and emotions ( BITE for short. ) When any of these are out of agreement with each other, anxiety is felt until they are brought back into alignment — either by shifting or changing the one that was out of alignment back into place, or shifting another or others to agree with the shift.
