association
Association is one way we connect or link things, mostly subconsciously and almost always automatically. Some associations are useful, some are not. Non-useful associations must be found and de-linked.
Kinds of Association
Simultaneous Associations
If X is true, Y is also true
If X is happening, Y is also happening
Sequential Associations
Sequential associations are cause-and-effect associations.
If X happens, Y will always follow
Creating Associations
Strength
Associations are strengthened by repetition.
Unconscious Learning
We are constantly and unconsciously learning through association. This rule can be expressed : "neurons that fire together, wire together." We are constantly learning about our environment this way. In a social context, this is the basis for imitation in learning.
